Free Health Services Provided to 83 Fire Victims in Duri Utara

A total of 83 fire victims in RW 02, Duri Utara Urban Village, Tambora Sub-district, West Jakarta have received medical services at a health post set up near the evacuation site.

"The health team offered psychosocial support to help both children and adults cope with post-fire trauma," 

An officer from Jakarta's Regional Health Crisis and Emergency Center (PK3D), M. Akbar, stated that within three days after the fire, most residents reported symptoms such as coughs, colds, diarrhea, dizziness, and injuries from debris.

Mitigation Efforts Strengthened to Curb Fire Outbreaks

"We respond to their complaints with medical consultations and by providing temporary medication or presciption. If a serious illness is identified, the patient will be referred to a hospital," he explained, on Thursday (7/24).

During the emergency response period, he added, his team, along with local health center (Puskesmas), also offered other services, including doctor consultation, home visits for those physically unable to reach the health post.

Moreover, fire victims were also provided with psychosocial support to help them manage emotional distress caused by the fire.

"The health team offered psychosocial support to help both children and adults cope with post-fire trauma," he added.

Akbar urged fire victims to take care of their health by maintaining personal hygiene and keeping their sleeping areas clean during their stay in the shelter.

"Sanitation is one of the most vulnerable aspects after a disaster. Alhamdulillah, PAM Jaya has provided clean water access here, so the sanitation facilities are fairly adequate for them," he mentioned.

Duri Utara Urban Village Head, Ari Kurnia, stated that the initial three-day emergency response period had taken place. Given the condition of the evacuees, the emergency response period has been extended to 10-14 days, in accordance with reegulations.

"After that, we'll begin clearing the debris thus residents can rebuild their homes and continue their normal activities," he said.
